As the U.S. regulatory expertise leader of the firm's Executive Pay & Governance Practice, Mr. Gerek heads its regulatory and technical team. He helps employers and executives with executive pay arrangements, including alternatives and potential consequences.
Mr. Gerek focuses on taxes, corporate, securities, accounting, employment, and other regulatory matters that can impact executive compensation and the reasonableness of executive pay packages. In this role, he designs executive compensation programs, develops employment agreements, incentive plans, and deferral programs, critiquing both existing and proposed executive pay arrangements.
Mr. Gerek is an author and co-editor of Understanding Executive Compensation & Governance: A Practical Guide (2016). Previously, he was a partner in the executive compensation and employee benefits practices of two leading Chicago-headquartered law firms - Ungaretti & Harris Katten Muchin Rosenman.
Mr. Gerek received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School after graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. His further studies earned him a master of laws in taxation degree from the DePaul University School of Law. He also is a Certified Executive Compensation Professional.
